In my humble opinion, one of the best books ever written is One: The Art and Practice of Conscious Leadership by Lance Secretan.
Lance poses the questions: How can we experience oneness, within ourselves and with others? How are we to lead our lives - and lead people, organisations, communities and nations - so that we contribute to the inherent wholeness of life?
He answers this by focusing on unlocking the attributes of:
- Courage
- Authenticity
- Service
- Truthfulness
- Love
- Effectiveness
These attributes already exist in all of us, but what are we doing with them? A powerful question for us all to consider.
Coaching Exercises
1. What does courage mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
2. What does authenticity mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
3. What does service mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
4. What does truthfullness mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
5. What does love mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
6. What does effectiveness mean to you? Reflect - when has it provided you strength and/or positive outcomes in the past? Assess - how are you utilising this attribute now? Create - what do you want to use it for to create in your future (for you and for others)?
7. Commitment and Action - as a result of this activity, what are you committing to?
