A report just hit the news that there will be 2.5 million job losses in the USA this year. This made me explore who is doing Good Works to help these people, and wouldn't you know it, I came across an organisation actually called Good Works.
Here's their website.
Here's the "blurb" from their website:
GOOD WORKS is a national directory of social change organizations and is the first directory to present alternatives to traditional corporate employment. This directory, now in its fifth edition, lists the aims and projects of over 1000 organizations and provides background information on contacts, starting salaries and benefits, types of staff openings, available internships, annual budget and funding sources, and the application process. It also profiles individuals who are building public interest careers.
For those of you who are not in the USA, you may consider going to online career / job ad sites and add keywords such as "good works", "social responsibility" and "meaningful" to your job search criteria and see what comes up.
From my experience working with a lot of clients about finding new and meaningful career choices, just some simple keyword search changes can make a huge difference.
To everyone in the USA and elsewhere around the world struggling in these times and in particular looking for new career opportunities that also speak to your values, from all of us here at askacoach.com, we are sending you positive thoughts, energy and sincere best wishes. We're here to help if you need us.
Coaching Exercises
1. What does a meaningful career mean to you?
2. Are you in one now? What makes your current role meaningful to you?
3. What could you do to make your current role even more meaningful? If you feel you're possibly not in the right and/or a meaningful role now, what options do you see available to you? Have you considered working with a career specialist to assist you? There are many types of these specialists all over the world and from my perspective there are many options. What research have you done to see what's available in your area?
4. As a result of these questions and your personal exploration and answers, what are you committing to?
As always, if you need any further personal support in response to any of these coaching exercises, please consider using the askacoach.com service.
All the best,
Noel
