The Sydney Festival is on, and what a wonderful celebration of the arts, music and dance. And full of surprises too!
Last night my partner and I went for a walk and at one of the local main public squares, there was a piano set up and a ten year old boy playing it. (By the way, he was fantastic!)
As it turn out, it's part of the festival to have pianos set up all over the city with the sign "Play Me, I'm Yours" and people can just sit down and play and others can sing along. Just spontaneous music in the streets. Love it!
Here's a link to more information about it.
Coaching Exercises
1. If you came across a piano in a public square, regardless of whether you can play or not, would you sit down and hit a few keys? If someone else was playing and it was a song you could sing to, would you?
2. The reason for the above questions is to raise awareness about how comfortable you feel just being open to fun, creative behaviour in public spontaneously. I'm not saying you "must" be confident at this, but it is something worth exploring. To what level would you be confident? What would make you feel unconfident? What would the benefits be for you and others if you let loose and had fun in this way? What risks would you be concerned about?
3. What's one thing you could do today, publicly, that could help you both have fun and be more confident? (A simple suggestion is make a point of smiling at others while walking down the street, on a train or bus, or even while driving.)
4. As a result of these questions and your personal exploration and answers, what are you committing to?
As always, if you need any further personal support in response to any of these coaching exercises, please consider using the askacoach.com service.
