'New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights.' Hamilton Wright Mabie
Now that the Christmas celebrations are over and the New Year is approaching, I wonder how many are beginning to think of what 2011 will bring. Percentage wise a large number of people will have taken three days off this week (if you are working on the UK based public holiday calendar or maybe more if you are not), and will be spending that time with family and friends maybe ... catching up with chores around the house ... on holiday, away from home ... whatever you are doing - as the new year is approaching, what thoughts are going through your mind?

In the infinity of life where I am,
all is perfect, whole, and complete.
Each one of us, myself included, experiences the richness
and fullness of life in ways that are meaningful to us.
I now look at the past with love and choose
to learn from my old experiences.
There is no right or wrong, nor good or bad.
The past is over and done.
There is only the experience of the moment.
I love myself for bringing myself
through this past into this present moment.
I share what and who I am,
for I know we are all one in Spirit.
All is well in my world.

"How we spend our days is of course how we spend our lives." Annie Dillard
What a fabulous quote and a real focus on how we select to live our life! It truly made me think about how I spend my days and I asked myself the question 'is this how I select to spend my days?
When I first started my own company in 2000 I didn't really know where it was going to take me. I was aware that I didn't want to be tied down to working Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, but I didn't really know what I want to do either. I wasn't consciously aware that I was looking to find a new way to fill my days - I just knew that I wanted to get off the merry-go-round that I felt I was on.
The year 2000 saw me stay in the IT professional world and work through agencies rather than as an employee of a company. This way I was able to select my own days for working. Over the next year or so I found a new career - it wasn't the first change in my working life, so it didn't worry me that I was going to return to studying and 'start again'. This was a career in coaching. It was an interesting transition from working by the day for a client to working by the hour with a coaching client ... and it took me some time to really understand the change I had made to my working life. Once I did, I realised it was all for the better.
Over the last 15+ years my husband has pushed for us to move away from the UK and more specifically over the last 10 years we've been looking to do this. In 2008 we found a property and earlier this year we moved to the island of Madeira (Portugal). When I saw this quote this morning I realised that over the last 10 years I've gradually been moving to understand how I spend my days; and today I realised that this is now how I am spending each moment of my life. I wonder, what would have happened in my life if I had realised this in 2000 and started the realisation and change of how I spend my time with a more conscious approach, rather than the unconscious approach I seem to have taken? Interesting question ...
... but now that I've had this realisation I have an understanding that there are things that I need to put into place to really know how I want to be spending my days, and once I've done this then I know I'll be spending my life in the way I select to.
How can I help you do the same for your life?

... and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness and fears." Glenn Clark.
I found this quote and it resonated with me. How often have we heard that if we forgive, we confront our fears, our concerns, our worries; our energies will increase. It's interesting as in the world of coaching we work with clients to allow them to see their futures ... achieve their dreams ... make a success of their plans ... but how often do we talk about energies? Very rarely.
It's not simple to do, but it's a very interesting exercise to really look at and address yourself at this level; but having done it myself I found that suddenly the whole outlook of life changed ...! I've always been described as a positive person by friends and colleagues, but even with a general positive outlook to life - I can still feel as envious, jealous, angry, upset, and negative. Although I work with clients (colleagues and friends) at this level, I find that just spending some time with myself, my journal in a very motivating place (for me on the beach listening to the waves washing up onto the rocks or the beach) just capturing what you are feeling, what you are thinking, what you are seeing, what you are hearing; allows you to start to understand where you are putting your energies.
If you were to now think about 'forgiving and forgetting' - not always easy, I know - what do you think will happen to your energies? My experience is that when I recognise what I've written down and I work on each one of them ... my energy levels go up.

.. as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed.' Wayne Dyer
I love this quote because it truly explains what I often feel when talking to clients, colleagues, friends, and family. I have just moved to the most wonderful sub-tropical island in the Atlantic Ocean and am sitting in my office and looking out over a drizzly day and this quote struck me as did the phrase 'saving for a rainy day'?' Well I'm sitting here in a rainy day wondering how I could live today as if it was my last and use the savings I've got as I've saved them for today! Savings doesn't have to mean just money ... I arrived in the office this morning and a friend of mine (works in the coffee shop next door) wandered in and asked if today was the sort of day that we should close up and go home and read. What a wonderful idea ... what's stopping us doing this?
Expectation of others! This quote clearly says what us coaches know ... we have to live our lives for ourselves. Take a few moments and ask yourself 'what's stopping me living the life I dream I could live?' If you are truly honest with yourself you'll find interesting responses coming to you - capture them. You don't have to do anything with them at all .. but it will be interesting to see how often they come back to you now that you've spent some time pondering over this question.
It's interesting to see how our parents ... our friends ... our peers ... our colleagues ... our clients/customers ... our acquaintances ... in fact anyone we talk to can influence our life. I remember being told that my future was in the world of finance and as an obedient daughter I joined an Accounting firm and trained as an Accountant. Moving to the UK was eye-opening as there were so many opportunities and I started to take them - Financial Analyst in the City of London ... IT consultant ... IT project manager ... and so the opportunties rolled in and I took each one as it came along. What would have happened if I had followed my dream as a teenager and become a hair-dresser? My life would not have taken the path it has taken ... my experiences would not be so full and fun-filled maybe ... my friends - would be very different to the friends I have now in my life ... but would my life have been less fullfiling? I honestly don't know, but what I do know is that I have tried to live each day as it comes ... not always taking advantage of the day and making the most of it ... but re-reading this quote, I'm going to print it out and stick it in places where I and others can see it. Let's see what happens ... !
As a columnist on The Psychic Week you'll find that I'm writing a weekly article and in these am exploring with my readers what dreams we each have and how we can convert them into our aspirations ... our goals ... and our achievements/successes. For those of you who have wondered where I’ve been, I’ve been working on a new project – The Psychic Week. This is a weekly on-line magazine where you can for the first time ever read the news before it happens.
Today is ‘go-live’ and for anyone who has been involved in an IT project, you’ll know that I’ve worked the whole week-end through and have been at my desk since 6.30am! Those last minute technical glitches always lurk around.
is written and published by an extraordinary team of people dedicated to providing a really honest and alternative insight into the human experience –it’s one that challenges the conventional but provides a refreshingly positive path for the future. Working with a couple of my closest friends - Robert and Julie Wells - the project has taken them fifteen years of work to formulate and most of 2010 to bring it all together. The Psychic Week has been designed to encourage you to think outside the box and for those of you who know me well, you will know that this is something that I advocate.
The Psychic Week has a minimal subscription, a percentage of the profits will go to develop a Trust Fund to assist talented disadvantaged children – so I hope that you will join me on our journey of exploration week-by-week into the positive of human potential.

'Assumptions are the termites of relationships.' Henry Winkler
A very close friend of mine always comments on how much I hate assumptions. Not only does the phrase 'assumptions makes an ass out of you and me' explain the reason, in the world of coaching allowing the coach to make an assumption means that they may not have understood the coaching conversation or the point that is being made.
The dictionary describes assumption as 'something taken for granted; a supposition'; and for me this is an accurate description. Making an assumption does take the understand of the conversation, or what is being said, or your understanding of what is being said as something for granted.
As a coach if I take something for granted in a coaching conversation, it does mean that I don't fully understand what the client is saying, has said or is trying to say. But what happens when you take something in the spiritual world for granted?
As don Miguel Ruiz explains in his best selling book 'The Four Agreements', communicating with others as clearly as you can allows to you avoid misunderstandings, sadness, confusion and drama.
When we assume something we don't have the courage to ask the right questions - ok so what are the right questions? Generally these are the questions that we feel are too intrusive, to close, may provide too much information; and that we are generally too 'scared' to ask. In the coaching world it maybe that we are listening but not hearing what is actually being said.
Next time you have a question in your mind that you feel may be too intrusive, the person you are talking to may not wish to answer (and there in lies another tale), may provide you with 'too much information' about the person you are talking to ... see what happens when you ask it.
Hence by removing assumptions from all your conversations you can truly transform your life.

What if loneliness was simply a feeling of impatience, telepathically sent to you by friends you've yet to meet, urging you to go out more, do more, and get involved, so that life's serendipities could bring you together... Would you still feel alone?
What if illness was just the signal a healthy body sent to urge clarification of your thoughts, feelings, and dreams... Would you still, at times, think of yours as diseased?
What if feelings of uncertainty and confusion were only reminders that you have options, that there's no hurry, and that everything is as it should be... Would you still feel disadvantaged?
What if mistakes and failures only ever happened when your life was about to get better than it's ever been before... Would you still call them mistakes and failures?
And what if poverty and lack were simply demonstrations of your manifesting prowess, as "difficult" to acquire as wealth and abundance... Would they still cause you to feel powerless?
Well, whatever you feel, I still consider you my only begotten, my champion, and my equal.

1. Start each day with a grateful heart.
2. Focus on the positive aspects of every person you encounter.
3. End each day with a grateful heart.
Lucy MacDonald
I was looking for a quote to send to a friend when I came across this quote and I thought that this was such a simple way of thinking about each day.
How easy is it to start each day with a grateful heart? Another quote I read recently said that on waking each morning you should think about what you learnt from the day before - this would allow you to truly benefit from your experiences. What if you were to then spent just a few moments being grateful for what you have, for what you've experienced? When you were then to get out of bed, your day would immediately look a lot brighter.
Lucy's second point for me is an easy one, as this is how I look at people. Yes sometimes I do feel very let down when I realise that their good points are maybe not their strongest; but what impact would thinking about he positive in each person you meet have on your day? From an energetic point of view, your energy levels will be increased in a positive way. This does mean that you would then be able to experience more in the day. Spend a few moments after meeting each person you meet, and jot down the positive asects of the person you've just met and been talking to. Look around you at people - think about the positive aspect of those around you, even if you don't talk to them.
End each day with a grateful heart. There are many sayings about ending the day on a positive note - i.e. don't go to bed on an arguement. Our unconscious minds are busy when we are asleep, and they can only work on the topics that we've given it to work with - so what if your last thoughts of the day were positive thoughts? What if your last thoughts of the day were grateful thoughts? How easy would you sleep if your unconscious mind was relaxed in it's work overnight? You would wake refreshed in the morning.
Try these three small rules for a week - make a note of everything that happens ... of how you feel during the day ... of how you feel on waking ... of how you feel just before you drop off to sleep. At the end of the week, reflect back on how that week felt and see what the benefits are for you and those around you.
